Who
Craig K. Kahauolopua is a Designated Pilot Examiner out of the State of Hawaii, managed through the Honolulu Flight Standards District Office.
What he examines
Airplane practical tests listed on the current Certificate Letter of Authority: private, instrument, and commercial (ASEL and AMEL as authorized); flight instructor airplane recent experience (by practical test) or reinstatement; CFII airplane add-on; Ground Instructor Examiner; Flight Instructor Recent Experience Examiner (FIRE); Basic Administrative Examiner for supervised operating experience limitation removal; and Special Medical Flight Test when authorized.
He does not give an initial CFI. Instructor practical tests are CFII add-ons, recent experience (by practical test), and reinstatements only. If a test is not on the current CLOA, it is not offered.
How a ride is run
The recommending instructor remains responsible for eligibility. The examiner verifies the record and administers the test to the current Airman Certification Standards or Practical Test Standards for that rating. A request for a date is not a hold until the examiner sends a written accept. Accepted dates may change in rare cases due to the examiner's other professional commitments. You will be notified as soon as possible and offered a new date. The examiner fee is due before the test starts. All fees are confirmed in writing before the application is accepted. Aircraft, fuel, and instructor time are separate.
Where
Serving the State of Hawaii. Guam and the U.S. mainland by arrangement, subject to FAA preapproval, authorization, aircraft, weather and other duties.
